Vitamin B-3 (Niacin)

Function
Important for circulation and healthy skin. Important for nervous system function, metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins, and is critical for hydrochloric acid, bile and other stomach fluid production. Niacin lowers cholesterol and improves circulation. Has been used in the treatment of schizophrenia and other mental illness and enhances memory.

Sources
Beef liver, brewer’s yeast, broccoli, carrots, cheese, corn flour, dandelion greens, dates, eggs, fish milk, peanuts, pork , potatoes, tomatoes, wheat germ, and whole wheat products and many herbs.

Deficiency
A disease known as Pellagra is caused by niacin deficiency. Symptoms include dementia, depression, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue headaches, insomnia, and indigestion.
