Folic Acid (Folate)

Function
Folate is crucial to energy production, the formation of red blood cells, immune function, white blood cell production and the synthesis of RNA and DNA. Folic acid is also very involved in protein metabolism.

Sources
Asparagus, barley, beef, bran, brewer’s yeast, brown rice, cheese, chicken, dates, green leafy vegetables, peas, root vegetables, salmon, tuna, and whole grains.

Deficiency
Symptoms include sore red tongue, anemia, apathy, digestive disturbances, fatigue, graying hair, and memory problems.
